This is the tenth and final part in a series addressing the most common health concerns as we age. Previous parts have discussed cardiovascular health, weight loss, blood sugar, cognitive function, gastrointestinal health, maintaining strong bones and joints, detoxification, and the effects of chronic stress and sleep loss. In this installment, I will discuss inflammation and why controlling this factor is essential to an effective healthy aging regimen.

Inflammation is a double-edged sword. After an injury, infection or irritation, inflammation is necessary for the body to heal the damaged area. Yet, despite inflammation’s important role in healing the initial phase of the injury or infection, when inflammation becomes chronic and long-lasting it is damaging to the body.
